Micah Barker | Founder
Micah's passion for ecology started in his childhood, growing up on the Big Island of Hawai’i. He studied Permaculture Design—a multidisciplinary study of environmental science, energy conservation, applied ecology, and integrated water resource management.
After earning certificates in Permaculture as both a designer and educator, Micah founded the landscape construction company Bioscape Hawai’i in 2011, with the goal of integrating ecological restoration with modern landscaping design and construction.
In 2013 he began managing luxury landscapes at the prestigious Kuki’o Resort Community on Hawai’i’s Kohala Coast. Alarmed to find a community riddled with extremely high water use, rigorous chemical programs, and intensive labor requirements, Micah implemented a holistic approach to landscape management.
With impressive results of 50% water reduction, and elimination of chemicals products needed, Micah went on to further develop a more efficient and environmentally sound model of landscaping design.
Having proven both his expertise in and passion for sustainable landscaping, Micah was appointed Vice President of Hawai’i Island Landscape Association in 2018, where he assists the board in progressively raising the bar for landscapers in Hawai’i.
Today, Micah continues to apply his 15 years of experience, as well as his deep love for nature, in creating regenerative landscapes that are non toxic, environmentally sound, and resource conservative over the long-term.
